Kodiak Island Duck  hunting Packing List

 Most airlines have a 50 pound weight limit on bags but Island Air has a 70 lb weight limit.  I like to have each person in the group to bring a 48-60qt cooler to take your trophy ducks home in.  

  • 10 –12 Gauge Shotgun

  • 5MM Neoprene Boot Foot Waders
  • Hooded Waterfowl Parka

Kodiak Island Fishing  Packing List

  • Clothing & waders:
  • 2 sets of polar fleece pants and shirts
  • 5 pair of light socks, 2 pair of heavy socks
  • 6 pair of underwear
  • 1 set sweats for pajamas a
  • high quality rain jacket or parka ( Helly Hanson, Patagonia or Simms),
  • 1 set of warm gloves and hat either wool or fleece,
  • 1 pair camp shoes,
  • small dry bag for storage and transport
  • 1 pair waders Gore-Tex or neoprene with wading belt
  • pliers and a hook file.

     


Fishing Gear and Tackle

  • 2-3 rods and reels (3-4 piece travel real nice, but any will work), Char rods 6 & 7 weight graphite 9-10ft length
  • wf floating 444sl Cortland, 220 gr sink tip fly lines
  • Salmon/ Steelhead /Sockeyes /Chums/ Pinks/ Silvers 8 or 9 weight 9 1/2 ft good quality rod (Diamondback, Sage, Winston, Orvis heavy duty reel with good drag) 150 yards backing minimum.
    King rods need to be 9 & 10 weight 9 to 9 1/2 ft
  • Reels with great drag preferably with anti reverse (STH/Billy Pate/Abel/ Orvis) they are all good, filled with 200 yards of 30# backing and a 300 grain fast sinking tip
  • Asstortment of frog hair or Maxima Spools 1:6lb, 2:8lb, 1:10lb, 1:12lb, 1:15lb, 1:25lb, 4 pre tied tapered leaders 1x-3x.
